Tyler's research and teaching interests include:

• Animation and the television cartoon
• Media theory and media history
• Film and comparative media studies
• American media culture.

His completed dissertation, “Understanding the Early Television Cartoon,” proposes a theoretical model explaining how animation was made for television in the early years of the medium.

Tyler has seven years of experience teaching media studies, interpersonal communication, and rhetoric.
